MVC Athletes of the Week

The MVC is recognizing Athletes of the Week at the middle school level.  Like our conference high schools, coaches will submit their student-athletes and each recipient will be posted here weekly.

WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 7

North College Hill won vs. St. Bernard-Elmwood Place on Thursday behind a ground attack that saw six different Trojan players score at least one rushing touchdown. NCH defense also did a good job of stifling the SBEP offense.

New Miami seventh grader Sophia Hampton played her first middle school volleyball match this past week. She had five digs and served her first ball! Her determination to learn a game that is completely new to her makes her our ATHLETE OF THE WEEK!

Norwood soccer player Zaymeer Jones has been improving quite well since joining the team. This is his first time ever playing the beautiful game of fútbol (soccer), and he’s already had three fantastic performances. The one that stands out most was against Seven Hills, where he scored his first goal as our striker. Keep pushing Zaymeer — aka “The Flash!”

Congratulations to CHCA eighth grader Elliot Gockerman for placing first in three of his first four cross country invitationals this year (the other one he placed second). His time of 10:53.9 ranks in the top 12 in the state for JH runners. He just passed his brother Wyatt on the All Time list for CHCA JH boys runners. He is now chasing his brother Nate who holds the school record - only nine seconds away.

MVCA football would like to recognize Gavin Maney and Bryce Berlin for Athletes of the Week.  Gavin and Bryce each tallied two touchdowns in a match-up against New Miami.

Congratulations to CHCA eighth grader Emma Elpers who won the CCD Cross Country Invitational and has placed third twice and eighth once. Her time of 12:47.1 puts her at fourth All Time for CHCA girls. Congratulations also to Elisa Bianconi for improving by almost seven minutes on her first time of 23:04.11 at CCD to 16:24.9 at Little Miami.

Summit Country Day cross country recognizes eighth grader Emma McCormickEmma won the Little Miami Invite and broke the school record in the process, posting a 12:18 for 2 miles.

Outstanding Athlete of the Week for Summit Country Day volleyball is Olivia Elfenbein. For the second year in a row, she served a full set against an opponent, serving 25 straight!

Congrats to St. Bernard-Elmwood Place football player Neariyah Israel (lil Chase). He’s being esteemed for his performance and hustle throughout this week's game. Despite the loss against North College Hill, Neariyah never gave up! He hustled on both sides of the ball and came up with some big plays for big yards. He was willing to do whatever was needed for his team. Congrats to him and the Titans.

Cincinnati Christian A team volleyball player Willow Sasser had an amazing all-around volleyball match this week! Willow's outstanding serving, four kills, and numerous digs helped her team gain its win on Thursday against the Trailblazers. Excellent job Willow

Seven Hills girls soccer Athlete of the Week is Clare Schnirring for her two cross assists in our 2-1 win over Summit Country Day!

WEEK ENDING AUGUST 31

The Norwood boys soccer Athletes of the Week are Sam Eilerman, Antonio Reyes, Yaszel Kritis, and Alex O’Connor. Sam has had a fantastic start to the season. In just two games, he has proven to be a key player by creating plays that lead to scoring opportunities. Sam has scored one goal himself and also assisted a goal. Great midfielder! Antonio has been a rock on defense, an absolute beast at stopping scoring chances and keeping opponents at bay. He has truly earned the nickname “The Great Wall of Norwood.” Excellent center back! Yaszel has become a strong center midfielder and recently embodied the “never stop trying” mindset, scoring a beautiful goal against Summit Country Day. He has secured two goals in our first two games and set the bar high for the team. Giving 100 percent and leaving everything on the field is what’s important. The hardest role on a soccer team is finding a great goalkeeper, and Alex has stepped up with ease. But that’s not the only way he contributes; he also helps build the team by recruiting players, both new and experienced. Without him, we wouldn’t have a team. Alex is literally not just saving goals, he’s saving the team.

Our Athlete of the Week for Seven Hills girls soccer is Eliana Mckee for her fantastic double save against Sycamore. She made the first save then dove into the goal post to make the second, putting her body on the line for her teammates!

Norwood boys seventh grade cross country runner Judah Stutzmen works really hard every day in practice and pushes himself by volunteering to run more than is expected of him.  He shaved 25 seconds off his time in the second race and keeps striving to do better.  Great job Judah!

In CHCA's win over North College Hill, Lerois Harris had eight touches for 167 yards and three touchdowns in a hard-fought game.

New Miami eighth grade football player Aaiden Fry had four tackles for loss and multiple assisted tackles and a leader in Thursday's game against St. Bernard-Elmwood Place.

MVCA's eighth grade Purple volleyball player Lena Erickson was a true team captain in our win Thursday against Wyoming. She kept the team motivated, uplifted, and left her heart on the volleyball court. I am happy to have Lena on our team, and proud to call her a team captain. I am excited to watch Lena continue to grow as a player!

In St. Bernard-Elmwood Place's 32-6 football victory over New Miami, Daryl Miller is recognized for his performance and exceptional team effort! Daryl was willing as a wide receiver to step into the role of a quarterback when our starting QB was injured. His dedication to his teammates and to the game landed him two touchdowns and one of the greatest tackles of the game! Big congrats to Daryl and all of the St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Junior High Titans!

Cincinnati Christian eighth grade "A" volleyball player Kendall Wilder served 15 serves in a row with nine of them being aces in the team's match-up with St. Bernard-Elmwood Place! Great job Kendall!

WEEK ENDING AUGUST 24

Cincinnati Christian seventh grade cross country runner Micah Dickerson excelled in his breakout cross country race at the CCD Invitational with a top-10 performance in a personal-best time of: 14:54.11.

Clark Montessori girls soccer player Kharli Parker Garris had 15 saves as goalie in her first game! She is our Athlete of the Week!

Norwood boys cross country Athlete of the week is seventh grader Judah Stutzman. In his first race as a cross country runner, Judah ran a 16:30.  He runs hard at practice every day and has great potential to become a strong cross country runner - keep up the great work Judah!

Seven Hills eighth grade soccer player Alexandra Krause scored three goals and had two assists in our season opener against Reading. She is a force to be reckoned with in the attack!

St. Bernard-Elmwood Place eighth grade football player Elijah Scheiderer had seven carries for 80 yards and a touchdown against Norwood (a 6-6 tie). He is also a great leader for our team. I consider him and a few others as “vets.” This is his second year with our middle school program, and he has done nothing but improve. He’s a great athlete, great student, and a great teammate.

In Clark Montessori’s first game of the season against Cincinnati Country Day, quarterback Tyvez Boggs registered 104 yards rushing and a touchdown and 150 yards passing and two touchdowns. He also had a 25-yard passing touchdown and a 65-yard rushing score called back due to penalties. I look forward to him having a stellar season.

MVCA eighth grade volleyball player Maribelle Baker was willing to play outside of her comfort zone and play positions she hasn’t played before in our game against Goshen. I am looking forward to seeing how she grows throughout this season!
